New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 148

A critical theory can be made out of anything. You can have a Critical Race Theory about race, a Critical Gender Theory about sex, even a Critical America Theory about America. And, we have all of these. In universities, Critical America Theory is usually branded as “American Studies,” but we have it everywhere. It’s not just in schools but in media, entertainment, law, and everything else. It also doesn’t just appear in left-wing ways like Howard Zinn’s infamous People’s History of the United States or Nikole Hannah-Jones’s crappy “1619 Project.” It comes at us in right-wing forms as well, most visibly from Tucker Carlson. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay explains the idea of Critical America Theory and how we encounter it today across the political spectrum, including its funding and support by George Soros and his foundations. Join him to understand this wicked attack on America.

It continues to be my conviction that Marx invented his anti-capitalism theory to justify his own inability to do productive or useful work. He was basically a criminal, and criminals embrace his ideas when they need similar justifications.
“Anti-Americans” on the Right, from what I can tell, believe that the problem is that America is not Christian enough. Though Christianity is a useful teaching in many ways, it likewise provides justifications for people who are too debased to control their own immoral urges. Unless very carefully studied and practiced, it does not really give its followers a way out of the personal messes that so many of us find ourselves in. These messes are usually not as bad as the criminal psychopathy of the extreme Left, but are still clearly “off course.” These might include all the various addictions and compulsions and any criminality that might result from them.
In both cases, individuals find themselves at odds with societal norms – which by and large are perfectly rational – and so seek a “theory” or ideology that will give them an excuse for failing to confront their own weaknesses and correct themselves. A LOT of people have personal problems, particularly in these modern times, so this seeking of excuses is quite widespread.
What these people need is real personal help from someone who can actually effectively help them. And this is a rare person today, and always has been. The idea that we could increase the numbers of such “helpers” is hardly even considered, though this would be the ultimate solution to the problem of Critical Theory and other forms of justification.
