The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Episode 90
Critical Education Theory Series, Part 20

This episode of the New Discourses Podcast continues a long miniseries exploring Paulo Freire’s landmark 1985 book The Politics of Education: Culture, Power, and Liberation, and it is embedded in the broader Critical Education Theory series here. In the previous part, James Lindsay presented the ideas in the ninth chapter of that book, where Freire outlines that the purpose of education is to humanize Man and the world, exactly as indicated by Karl Marx. The previous parts of this series, covering the earlier chapters of the book can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

In this episode, the last in the formal educational series covering this book, James takes up the first part of the very weird tenth chapter of The Politics of Education, wherein Freire discusses Liberation Theology and the Role of the Church as a parallel educational institution. In this first part of this shocking chapter, before turning to the role he envisions for churches, Freire explains the religious conversion educators must go through in order to be “true” educators. He describes it as a process of spiritual death and rebirth, literally an Easter educators and religious leaders must go through to be resurrected on the side of the oppressed. This is the religious heart of the so-called “pedagogy of the oppressed” at the center of Freire’s entire project and legacy. Join James to understand how Freire enabled the theft of education so that it could be transformed into religious education for the Theology of Marxism.

Thank you for digging into all this stuff. I left a comment elsewhere on the site about Freire based on reading The Pedagogy of the Oppressed. There I suggested that in that book I couldn’t see any necessary connection between Freire and Marxist revolution; you could read it, if you wanted, as an appeal to follow a much better revolution, the Jesus revolution. The readings in this podcast however make it clear that Freire is inimical to the good stuff. “Man is sick because of social structures.” Not sin; no personal responsibility; no Satan, as in the Bible – no spiritual realities at all. Just “Man.” Thank you JL for doing the spade work. I still don’t see a necessary connection with much of wokeism, much of which just looks like highly immoral people doing their worst – eg drag queens, with marxists no doubt taking as much advantage as they can of such unrestrained evil.

Th 5 essentials steps in social engineering are :

The top scholars incumbent the collaboration at the time are informed that X is required to be transformed into Y. They form the hypothesis & decide what it should look like to the intermediate level, ( as a graphical model / matlab) & what it should look like to public sector employees (as the dialectic model).

Th intermediates collaboration need to study the central hypothesis, & pass the examination testing their understanding of the model. Later they’ll submit the recoded dialectic architecture for consideration.

Certain governmental organisations examine it all, accept/reject for resubmission / plan their policy statements concerning these decoupled strategies

Organise training among the local authorities & in a new development among the quasi ministries of the government that have been set up to take responsibility so that the government doesn’t have to. charities – think tanks – quangos – who are now a type of civilian based though paramilitary style force with no mandate, yet have been taking almost ministerial style decisions more and more.

Implement among the local authorities with those organisations overseeing it.
