Wokeness is a rhetorical swamp. I’ve said repeatedly in countless talks, interviews, and podcasts, not to mention written it in essays, that the Woke aren’t playing the same game that the rest of us (broadly, classically liberal people) are playing. They have a different game, and it’s rigged to be parasitic off or to virally infect liberal systems, which too few liberal-minded people realize until it’s too late. In this episode of my subscribers-only podcast, James Lindsay OnlySubs, I try to use the analogy of swamps and gators (or crocodiles, if you prefer) to describe part of the rhetorical jungle we live in today and give some suggestions for what you can do to stay out of the water. In short, alligators will tend to hunt by dragging you into the water, their preferred domain, and then rolling you until you’re dead. With the Woke, the water is the dialectical and narrative-driven rhetorical morass that all but defines their style of “argumentation” and “engagement,” when they’re not just calling you names. Good advice here. Don’t miss it!
