I want to introduce a new strategy and term to you. It’s simple: call Critical Race Theorists and its activists “neoracists.” This isn’t my term, but it’s a good term, and it can stick. If you tune in to this episode of my subscribers-only podcast, James Lindsay OnlySubs, I’ll walk you through the term and the need for it, explaining how they have rigged the game to prevent the right term, “racism,” from sticking to their theory and activism. This brilliant neologism (and, no, it’s not mine) is a useful workaround to that problem, allowing people to name a blatant injustice and to make a clear, principled call against racism and neoracism at the same time. Join me for a short discussion of the term and idea!

Tars-
I am deeply grateful to you for taking me on a privilege walk. I feel guilty! How unforgivable of me!!/sarc.
In the future, I promise to do a better job of checking my privilege/sarc.
I add the sarc just in case somebody thinks to apply Poe’s law.
Unrelatedly, I think I’ve seen some of your posts on Quillette.
Harland-
Agree. (I liked the tone you used to express your thought).) Anyway, take heart. It’s easy to keep yourself updated and knowledgeable on the “newer” and various concepts in CT/CRT.
Visit different academic publications. For example, I typed “neoracism” in the search box. Up popped a number of academic papers on “neoracism”. Don’t know what James said (not convinced to pay money to listen to him yet), but the reading I did showed “neoracism” is an old concept. Etiene Balibar wrote a piece in the 1990s, “Is There a “Neoracism”?” Balibar teaches philosophy at…be surprised…Columbia!
Also, visit ncbi.gov or sage journals for academic papers on the horseshit (sorry). There are other sources as well. Whatever you read in such sources typically manifests in general society anywhere between ten to twenty years postpublication.
You may reacall the quaint notion of multiculturalism. In psychology, that morphed into “cultural competence” and is now called “cultural humility”. It will soon be called “cultural subjugation” I suspect.
BTW, read an academic paper on (politics, psych, soc, whatever) and notice they contain a lot of words that typically don’t express a logical, coherent thought.
It’s worth the $5, Cal. That’s just a hair more than a fancy Starbucks drink. Per month.
‘BTW, read an academic paper on (politics, psych, soc, whatever) and notice they contain a lot of words that typically don’t express a logical, coherent thought.’
Logical coherent thought is a white-centric heteronormative oppressive tool to enforce hegemonic systemic bigotry. Even worse, it doesn’t express ‘lived experience’.
