Everyone is talking about Critical Race Theory now, but what is it? I’ve talked about what Critical Race Theory is a bunch of times and written about it all over the place, but maybe the simplest expression is that Critical Race Theory is the study of some phenomenon it names “systemic racism.” Understanding Critical Race Theory, then, really boils down to understanding what it means by that term, and the answer is really simple: systemic racism is the cause Critical Race Theory assigns to the fact that certain differences in average outcomes exist by racial category (and that the system allows people to be individually racist at all, on another, more concerning level).
