New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 102
Something is rotten in the state of the conservative movement. Namely, a broad and diffuse coalition of radical Right-wing elements has arisen and begun to mature bearing unmistakable hallmarks of Woke behavior while claiming Right-wing status and conservative values. Some have called it the “Woke Right,” which in certain ways is a very good name for it, although “Right Hand of the Left” is also good. In this first introductory episode on the topic, host James Lindsay gives a (somewhat long) New Discourses Bullets treatment of the phenomenon, with more sure to come. Join him to understand how we are undeniably entering into a two-front war against the Woke.

It seems as though your main reason for applying the term “woke” to a certain right-wing movement or cluster of views is that the latter are based on the idea of being awakened from the prevalent supposedly false consciousness to a knowledge of how the human world “really” works. Isn’t this just what you ordinarily call “gnosticism”? So why not just say “the gnostic right”?
The utilitarian argument in favour of Pinochet proceeds from the fact that he “only” murdered approximately 3,000 mostly leftists, whereas Mao murdered something in the order of 60,000,000 – that is to say, Mao outmurdered Pinochet by a factor of 20,000 to one. From this “Kirkpatrician-utilitarian” perspective, it can then be argued that it is better to give Maoists and their fellow travellers helicopter rides before they avail themselves of the opportunity to unleash their butchery on everyone else.
